Building What Matters: Reuben Tozman’s Practical Approach Comes to tagtu

What happens when years of collaboration and trust meet the perfect opportunity? Reuben Tozman  joins tagtu as our Chief Product Officer, and we couldn’t be more excited. With his deep experience in startup growth and his long-standing relationship with our founding team, Reuben’s addition to the team brings practical approach and deep product strategy expertise to the team.

From the moment he stepped into the world of startups, Reuben knew he was a problem solver at heart. He’s built multiple companies from scratch, each time embracing the challenge of starting over. “Startups are all about solving one problem so you can get to the next,” he says. “Success isn’t about chasing unicorn status or making headlines on LinkedIn. It’s about building a business with a product people want to buy, selling it profitably, and treating people right.”

Reuben’s connection with tagtu runs deep. Having worked with the founder for many years, he stayed connected and often discussed the ideas behind tagtu. “I enjoy being an advisor and helping others where I can,” he shares. When tagtu reached a point where his expertise could make a significant impact, joining as a Chief Product Officer felt like the right move. “Being part of success is really the why now and why tagtu.”

Over the years, Reuben has learned the importance of not overthinking easily solvable issues. “Don’t get stuck or overthink problems that can be quickly resolved,” he advises. “For example, pricing is easy to change if you get it wrong. Don’t sweat that stuff.” He believes that early missteps are part of the journey and shouldn’t hold a team back. “People worry about the ten website visitors they get at first and giving them a bad impression if the site isn’t perfect. Why? It’s ten people. They won’t matter when you have thousands of visitors and you’ve had a chance to get things right.”

“Success isn’t about chasing unicorn status or making headlines on LinkedIn. It’s about building a business with a product people want to buy, selling it profitably, and treating people right.”

This mindset shapes his role at tagtu. He’s there to help the team focus on what truly matters and keep moving forward. “My role is to guide the team on that iterative journey and keep the focus on items that will matter,” he explains.

Having traveled extensively for business, Reuben appreciates tagtu’s mission to increase and measure the value of travel. In his previous company, there was always a question of the ‘value’ in the activities of sales and marketing. “The idea that there’s a process to drive value and a way to measure that value of travel is something very unique to tagtu,” he notes.

When it comes to traits that can make or break a team’s success, Reuben emphasizes speed. “Founders need to influence speed and focus, but really, they carry that burden for the team,” he says. “No one cares about success as much as you do. Getting people to focus on the right things and operate with speed is critical. That means empowering people to make decisions based on the values you’ve set and trusting them to make choices that propel activities forward with urgency.”

His unconventional advice for teams scaling up? “Don’t worry so much about getting things right at first,” he says with a smile. “People spend way too much time believing that their first customers, website visitors, meetings, etc., will dictate the future. They don’t. They are stepping stones and should be treated as such.”

As Reuben joins tagtu as our Chief Product Officer, he’s looking forward to being part of a team that’s not just solving problems but also redefining how value is measured in business travel. “Being part of success is why I’m here,” he says. With his guidance, we’re excited about the path ahead for tagtu.
